The nationalism confused with fascism, the delirium and the tragic Mexican religious fatalism, in a cabaret show with intellectual dyes Astrid Hadad.
The Mexican musician Astrid Hadad, will be performing on Saturday, July 12 2008 at 9:30pm. This free event is part of the Ritmo y Color Festival (Lose Your Self in Latin Culture) on the Sirius Satellite Stage (235 Queen Quay West), with the support of the Consulate General of Mexico in Toronto.
The melodies will be play by the group Los Tarzanes which is conformed by: Sibila de Villa, Leonel López, Javier Ortiz, Marco Manrique, Pavel Aguilar, Luis Werner y Julien Boisselier.
Astrid Hadad was born in Chetumal, Quintana Roo (Southeast of Mexico). She graduated from the Centro Universitario de Teatro (Theatre University Centre) that is part of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico, UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico).
After appearing in a number of shows, she projected herself in 1985 in the all-female production of Donna Giovanni, an adaptation of Mozart's opera for the theatre, which was directed by Jesusa Rodríguez and became a great hit in Europe having the last presentation at the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts), in Mexico.
She performed two personal shows called Nostalgia arrabalera (Unrefined Nostalgia) and Del rancho a la ciudad (From the Ranch to the City) where she sang ranchera and ballad music. She also produced and acted in the musical La occisa o luz, levántate y lucha (The death or Light, Standup and Fight) that is based on the life of the Mexican singer Lucha Reyes and since then she formed the group Los Tarzanes.
She produced two musical CDs named: Ay and Corazón Sangrante (Bleeding Heart). As part of her theatrical career she has performed in several festivals in Mexico and around the world in countries such as: USA, Canada, Belgium, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Germany and Bolivia
She defines her show as a blend of batucada, parody and humorous lyrics, with a historical background as the stage based on culture and anthropology from different times. For more information: www.astridhadad.com www.harbourfrontcentre.com
