REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION OF LISTS OF HOUSEHOLD ITEMS TO BE TEMPORARYLY IMPORTED BY FOREIGNERS PLANNING TO RETIRE OR TO WORK FOR A COMPANY IN MEXICO

1. File the application in person at the Consulate’s offices

2. Original FM3 form.

3. Valid passport.

4. Four prints of the list of household items, in Spanish (please consider getting the assistance of a professional, since inaccurate or machine translations are not acceptable), specifying brand, model and serial number of electrical and electronic products. All copies must be signed in original.

There is not official format for the listing of the items. One that could be suggested would consist in a table with three or four columns: 1) box number, 2) description of content, 3) serial numbers for electrical and electronic items and, 4) if you deem it necessary, additional information (description of items in English or usual location in the house, etc.).

The list must be reasonable in terms of number and features of the items, referring to what is standard for a single person or a family, depending on the case.

5. Letter addressed to the Consulate General of Mexico, requesting the certification of the list of household items being imported, stating the means of transportation, last address in Canada (mentioning the time of residence) and the location of the new residence in Mexico

6. Proof of address in Canada for the last two years (2 or 3 documents per year: cable, telephone bills, etc.).

7. Letter of promise to re export the items (provided by the Consulate).

8. Payment of consular fee.

REMARKS :

• Vehicles are not considered as part of the household items. A specific temporary importation permit may be obtained at the border. Requirements: proof of ownership, insurance valid in Mexico, driver's license, passport and migratory form (FM3).

• Processing time: two business days.
