My life inside
Ex voto for three sould
The demons of Eden
The fallen
The old thieves

In the 15th anual edition of Hot Docs, there is a spotlight on Mexican productions.

Made in Mexico presents five feature length documentaries: one international premiere, one North American premiere, two Canadian premieres and one Toronto premiere. The programme also includes the world premiere of one mid-length documentary.

Our titles are:

• THE DEMONS OF EDEN, dir. Alejandra Islas. In 2005 Lydia Cacho, a human-rights journalist in Mexico, is arrested by police after she exposes a powerful paedophile ring in her book, Demons of Eden.
• EX-VOTO FOR THREE SOULS, dir. Diego Rivera Kohn. This lyrical doc explores with sensitivity and breathtaking imagery the lives of three Mexicans who live, like many, on the edge of hope.
• THE FALLEN, dir. Rudy Joffroy. In February 2006, while 63 miners remained buried under the rubble of an explosion at the Pasta de Conchos coal mine in Mexico.
• THE INFINITE BORDER, dir. Juan Manuel Sepúlveda. A penetrating humanistic portrait of a contemporary exodus.
• MY LIFE INSIDE, dir. Lucía Gajá. An illegal immigrant from Mexico, working as a nanny in Texas, is brought to trial for the dead of 21-month-old baby who died under mysterious circumstances while in her care.
• THE OLD THIEVES: THE LEGENDS FROM ARTEGIO, dir. Everardo González. An often humorous look at a generation of charming professional thieves who reached the peak of their criminal career in 1960s.

Made in Mexico screening times and film descriptions are in the attached file. All the Mexicans filmmakers will be in attendance for post-screening discussions.

The Mexican film critic Elena Fortes Acosta, manager of Mexican documentaries “Ambulante”, will be part of Hot Docs Festival Jury.

The Made in Mexico programme is supported by the Consulate of Mexico in Toronto, the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Mexico, the National Council for the Arts and Culture/Mexico and Conquest
Vacations.
